In occasione della mostra La Grande Madre, un’esposizione a cura di Massimiliano Gioni, promossa da Comune di Milano | Cultura, ideata e prodotta dalla Fondazione Nicola Trussardi insieme a Palazzo Reale per Expo in città 2015, verrà presentata in anteprima italiana la performance Teaching to walk dell’artista slovacco Roman Ondák: tutti i giorni, nelle sale della mostra, una mamma insegnerà al proprio bambino a camminare.
La Fondazione Nicola Trussardi cerca quindi mamme con bambini di circa 8-12 mesi, interessate a prendere parte alla performance.
Parallelamente alla performance, la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi lancia su Instagram #TeachingToWalk: un invito a condividere, con una foto, i propri primi passi o quelli di chi abbiamo amato o amiamo.
LA PERFORMANCE – TEACHING TO WALK
Per la performance Teaching to walk (2002), proposta per la prima volta in Italia, la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi cerca mamme con bambini (di sesso maschile) che possano venire una volta al giorno, per qualche giorno e per mezz’ora circa, a visitare la mostra e a camminare insieme negli spazi dell’esposizione.
Nata dall’esperienza personale dell’artista che da padre si è trovato a osservare e condividere l’intimità che si creava tra la moglie e il loro bambino nei momenti in cui lei gli insegnava a camminare, Teaching to walk isola il momento preciso in cui un figlio muove letteralmente i primi passi verso l’indipendenza e perde gradualmente il contatto fisico con la madre. Catturando un’azione assolutamente imprevedibile, come può essere il comportamento di un bambino, l’opera è continuamente in divenire e accompagna il pubblico alla scoperta e condivisione di questo istante importantissimo, non limitandosi a rappresentarlo, quanto piuttosto creando un vero e proprio coinvolgimento.
L’INSTAGRAM CALL – #TeachingToWalk
#TeachingToWalk è una call aperta a tutta la community di Instagram: un invito a condividere, con una foto, i propri primi passi o quelli di chi abbiamo amato o amiamo. Un instante imprevedibile. Il primo gesto di indipendenza. Partecipare è semplice: basta postare su Instagram una o più immagini con l’hashtag #TeachingToWalk. Tutte le fotografie condivise della community saranno raccolte in un grande album in progress, sfogliabile sul sito www.lagrandemadre.org.
La call prende il via l’11 luglio 2015 e si concluderà il 15 novembre 2015, con la chiusura della mostra La Grande Madre.
LA MOSTRA – LA GRANDE MADRE
La mostra La Grande Madre sarà aperta tutti i giorni dal 26 agosto al 15 novembre 2015 e rappresenterà l’evento di punta del calendario di Expo in città nel secondo trimestre di Expo 2015.
Attraverso le opere oltre 120 artiste e artisti internazionali e con un allestimento che si estenderà su una superficie di circa 2.000 metri quadrati al piano nobile di Palazzo Reale, La Grande Madre analizzerà l’iconografia e la rappresentazione della maternità nell’arte del Novecento, dalle avanguardie fino ai nostri giorni.
Tra gli artisti in mostra: André Breton, Umberto Boccioni, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Francis Picabia e Man Ray, e ancora Joan Jonas, Frida Kahlo, Jeff Koons, Sarah Lucas, Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman e Rosemarie Trockel.During The Great Mother, an exhibition curated by Massimiliano Gioni, promoted by Comune di Milano | Cultura, and conceived and produced by the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi in partnership with Palazzo Reale for Expo in Città 2015, the performance Teaching to Walk by Slovakian artist Roman Ondák will make its Italian premiere: everyday, in the exhibition space, a mother will be teaching her child to walk.

THE PERFORMANCE – TEACHING TO WALK
For the performance Teaching to Walk (2002), presented here for the first time in Italy, the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi is seeking mothers with male babies who are willing to come once a day, for about half an hour each time, to visit the exhibition and walk together in the exhibition space.
Springing from the personal experience of the artist, who as a father found himself watching and sharing the intimate relationship between his wife and their son as she was teaching him to walk, Teaching to Walk homes in on the specific moment in which a child literally takes his first steps towards independence and gradually loses physical contact with his mother. Capturing an action as utterly unpredictable as a small child’s behavior, the work is in constant evolution; it invites viewers to discover and share this pivotal moment not just by portraying it, but by creating genuine involvement.
INSTAGRAM CALL – #TeachingToWalk
#TeachingToWalk is an open call to the entire Instagram community: an invitation to share a photo of your own first steps or those of someone dear to you. An unpredictable moment. The first act of independence.
Taking part is easy: just post one or more pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #TeachingToWalk. All the photographs shared by the community will be collected into a large, ongoing album that can be viewed on the site www.lagrandemadre.org.
The call will start on July 11, 2015 and end on November 15, 2015, with the close of the exhibition The Great Mother.
THE EXHIBITION – THE GREAT MOTHER
The exhibition The Great Mother will be open daily from August 26 to November 15, 2015, and will be the key event on the Expo in Città calendar for the second half of Expo 2015.
With work by 122 international artists and an exhibition layout that will cover more than 2000 square meters (20,000 square feet) on the piano nobile of Palazzo Reale, The Great Mother will analyze the iconography of motherhood in the art and visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, from early avant-garde movements to the present.
Featured artists will include: André Breton, Umberto Boccioni, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Francis Picabia and Man Ray, as well as Joan Jonas, Frida Kahlo, Jeff Koons, Sarah Lucas, Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman and Rosemarie Trockel and many others.
